The Look Backstage: Jean Paul Gaultier 2013 Spring Haute Couture Collection

Inspiration:  India with a gypsy flavor

Focus were on the dark eyes and this included darkening of the eyebrows. Like the collection the makeup was exaggerated and vampy.  Brows were darkened with black pencil lines drawn in to the natural shape of the brow, brows were also colored in to increase the depth of color as well as shape.  Eyes were lined with black pencil and dark shadow in the shape of cateyes helped to exaggerate and follow the theme of the show.

Faces were accessorized with crystals set at the inner corner of the eyes and above the lip (like a beauty mark).

Hair took on a mixture of styles and was just as complicated as the collection itself. The front was a center-parted exaggerated bee-hive, while the back consisted of an upside down french braid which gathered the hair on top in a ponytail to be braided.

Hands and feet were equally tended to follow the indian-inspired gypsy-flavored theme that borded the vulgar but clearly vampy collection. Nails were bright and shimmering, glitter and shine was an obvious characteristic of the collection and it showed here as well.

Feet were painted an assortment of colors.

Juxtaposition

The look backstage for makeup started with MAC Face and Body Foundation mattified with powder in the T-zone.

Brows were bleached to keep to the juxtaposition and to the ethereal look of the collection.

Blocked-off wings were drawn using eyeliner in Magenta color

Brushes dipped into MAC Chromacake were used to paint top and bottom lashes hot fuchsia.

Lips were kept shimmery in a pinkish hue.

Hair was pulled up into ponytails that folded onto itself to create a flat panel at back.  Hair around the hairline were sprayed to create a wispy floating look, Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Spray was used to give strands a shine-free, naturally gritty look. Heads were adorned with frosted Perspex headpieces (designed by Stephen Jones).

Nails were given two coats of a custom-mixed nude varnish composed of MAC Nail Lacquer in Quiet Time and Cream Delicate.

The Look Backstage: Proenza Schouler 2013 Spring Collection

"She's not a good girl, she's a dangerous girl"  -Paul Hanlon

Inspirations for hair:  Kurt Cobain's stringy hair,
Inspirations for makeup:  "Real girl"

Nails were polished clear

Make-up called for strong brows that were filled in and brushed upwards, smudged lids in Coffee (color) created by Eye Pencil, and clean skin achieved with the help of MAC Studio Finish Concealer and adding a bit of a sheer flush with nude-pink lipstick on the cheeks.  Lower lash lines were lined with Eye Pencil in Coffee while upper lash lines were kept bare and mascara was skipped entirely, giving the whole look a more boyish and undone look the show was going for.

Stringy Kurt Cobain locks were achieved by 1). misting hair down with water, 2). using hands to layer Frederic Fekkai's Perfectly Luscious Curl Wave Activating Spray through the length of the hair, 3). braid under sections to remove weight and give a natural stringy effect 4). gather hair into a low ponytail 5). spraying the base of the ponytail where the elastic is with Fekkai's Sheer Hold Hairspray (the elastic will later be cut and the hair will have an indentation where the elastic formerly was, 6). finally crown of the head is rubbed with fingers to create a static, frizzy effect.

The Look Backstage: Fendi 2013 Spring Collection

"The idea was to use colors from the collection, and the best way to that is to use the actual collection," Peter Philips

Inspiration for the look:  To be young and playful

Hair took on "sharp, aerodynamic' updos that consisted of manes being twisted and pinned down at the back of the head.  The texture and look of the overall hair was slightly wet which was achieved by the use of Frederic Fekkai Marine Summer Hair Beach Waves.  Heads were adorned with embellished headbands that matched the same colors of the pieces on the runway.

Swatches of fabric cut out from one of the Fendi bathing suits were thinly cut out to be glued to the lower lash lines.

Brows were expertly groomed to perfection and nails were a neutral color with a nude-salmon varnish on top, this resulted in a shimmery warm pink color with a touch of yellow.

The Look Backstage: Chanel 2012 Fall Couture Collection

The inspiration and theme of the collection:  New Vintage.  Backstage, makeup, hair and nails were following the "basics that were twisted in subtle ways" Peter Phillips.

A modern french manicure that includes using two shades on one nail, a chrome base outlined the whole nail-bed with a melon varnish overlay resulted in a kind of inverted french manicure.

Thick black liner topped the upper lids with an added pale beige along the inner rims of the eyes to open it all up.  Lashes were coated with Chanel Inimitable Mascara in Black.

lids were a blue/gray metallic that consisted of Chanel Ombre Essentielle Soft-Touch Eyeshadow in Furtif, the shadow was swept across the upper lash line through the crease and was also used to shadow under the lower lash, creating smokey eyes.

Lips were kept neutral to balance the smokiness of the eyes by using Natural lip liner and filled in lips with Rouge Allure lipstick in Evanescente.

hair was soft and loosely netted in a snood allowing soft but thick strands of hair to frame the face.
